boeing patents lunar flyby

Techdirt has the tale of a satellite launch gone awry. The satellite in question could still be nudged into its intended orbit, but Boeing has a patent on the process of doing a lunar flyby and returning to earth orbit, and it refuses to license the patent to SES, who launched the satellite.

In other patenting-elementary-math-and-physics news, a retired engineer in New Mexico has patented “a process and method for moving objects from a high elevation to a low elevation by pushing them off the edge of something” and two fourth-graders in Akron Ohio have a patent pending for “a real easy method of plussing and minusing big numbers.”
