You know I love correspondence! The Sra emailed me with a few remarks and observations, herewith reproduced and interspersed with my retorts.
I read the American Scholar article and thought of at least three people I would like to feed it to. Like, literally print it out, bake it in a pie, and say: “eat up, baby!”
I admit I’m not quite sure what this means. I assume these...

All aboard the nuclear power superjet →
A brief contemplation on the “vestigial risks” inherent in the uptake of “green” nuclear in the post-oil world. Touches on the problem of creating containment and signage for nuclear waste disposal facilities that will effectively ward off incursion by future-people (on the scale of 10,000 years).

Will our extremely flatulent (though small) puppy need to be registered as a source of greenhouse gases and taxed accordingly?
Will we be taxed on tonnage or, like, based on methane’s global warming potential and multiplied by twelve?
What can we feed her to make her stop smelling like several hundred head of cattle?

eric's trip - love tara →
I knew Love Tara as a name-drop in a Tragically Hip song before I knew what it meant.
I played Love Tara by Eric’s Trip on the day that you were born I had to find the cuteness in the unadorned but I was torn
Julie Doiron played bass in Eric’s Trip and later played on Gord Downie’s solo albums because the world is a blanket.

The only thing worse than “news” on the internet is the local teevee news recap of recent internet “news”. Isn’t it miraculous enough that you have a box in your kitchen that pops corn with radiations? Why do you want to believe your razorphone does that?

A follow-up to the lighting situation: I installed the new porch light with minimal loss of life and only one call to Sherry’s brother the electrician. It’s a light so smart that it can detect when it needs to be on. Light sensors! Motion sensors! Strange magic.

A month or two I was driving to the beer store or something with Borrelli, a crunchy Hamiltonian trying desperately to pretend to be an uncaring, elitist Hamiltonian. He is a savage, fiery-faced Italian. He decides where depleted fissile materials are stored in Canada.
He is preparing the way for the Dominion of the Sky People.
We drove past rows of bungalows and townhouses, and strip mall after...

We saw Wall*E (everything they say is true — and some of the things that aren’t said and cannot be said are true as well). It reminded me of a hundred thousand bits of sci-fi trope-debris my mind has accumulated over the years. Aside from the obvious referents (2001, Star Wars, Short Circuit), I came out of the theatre remembering a short story I read from a two-dollar second-hand...
