An old man walks up to the kiosk where I’m eating an apple and doing the crossword. “Is there a Bell store in this mall?”
“Nope.” There’s a Dollarama and a Super Discount City and an As Seen On TV! in this mall, but no Bell store. C’est si dommage.

Apparently a vengeful god or property manager decided I deserve to work in the unheated portion of the mall.
And I’m really close to killing the Salvation Army guy with the bells.
Every night for the past few nights a dense fog has descended on our dingy little town, a grey mist with headlights cutting through it on their way uptown. It’s like whatever god is using Barrie as a wind tunnel to study the aerodynamic properties of backwater mid-size commuter cities.
12-year-olds are belly dancing in the mall. I’m going home 90 minutes early and may God have mercy on us all.
